Yupaichani Organic Land Share Trust
Our purpose: Yupaichani means “thank you Pachamama, Earth mother” in the Quechua language. Our purpose is to create a replicable sustainable model of preserving cooridors of land that integrate human settlement and organic regenerative agriculture in perpetuity. To enhance mutual respect and interconnection between the people, the land and all the living beings on the land within the framework of a productive farm. To create a model of humans and nature living in symbiosis. To create a living demonstration of a balanced agro-ecosystem incorporating Permaculture and Biodynamic principles and practice.
We are committed to:
. Dedicating 80% of the land to growing food organically with Permaculture and Biodynamic principles. A minimum of twenty percent of this agricultural land will function as a native-forest preserve integrated with edible forest gardens which provides multiple functions of wild-life habitat for microbial, fungal, bird & native butterfly populations, vermiculture, bees, beneficial insects, as well as support of natural water cycles, shade, and nitrogen fixation.
. Making ongoing choices to help heal ourselves and heal the land
. Supporting local and organic argriculture and Permaculture as an education center and place where people can come and learn in many different ways such as workshops, internships and volunteer positions
. Practicing social structures of mutual respect
. Seeking new economic models that do not involve exploitation of land and/or people
. Making choices to enhance ecological balance, social justice and spiritual fulfillment for those directly involved in our project, and beyond.
. Recognizing and respecting mutiple forms of assets, such as: social assets, living assets, experiential assets, cultural assets, spiritual assets, and financial assets.
. Encouraging profit-sharing, employee-owned business, employee-initiated businesses, and diverse forms of collaboration as found in cottage industry.
. Finding ways to move away from labor being bought and sold.
. Working with KINS Innovation Networking to evolve the goals and purpose of the project, and to serve as a communication model http://www.kinsinnovation.org/
For our first model project adjacent to Finca Vida Verde in San Jose de Vilcabamba, we envision:
Bio-construction model housing for two modest dwellings suitable for long-term residence.
A bio-construction model tri-plex house for short term occupancy on a time-share or rental basis.
All buildings not to exceed 20% of the square meters of the property.
The organization’s structure will support us in these ways:
• It will be run by a board which allows for shared stewardship. The board can be as small as two individuals, or as large as desired. We think 3 or maybe 5 board members would be good, to keep decision-making streamlined. Buying and selling property occurs by by board decision, with the intention of clearly defined means for land partners to be able to sell their portion at current market value, upon consensual agreement with all other current land partners as to who will be the new member.
• The foundation will have non-profit status, which can be helpful as a tax shelter, and/or
help us qualify for grant funding.
